I started some valerian seeds last year that are from a variety with the ungainly name of Arterner Zuchtung–I think I got them from Johnny’s, although they have been discontinuing many of their herb seeds and don’t have it listed now. This variety was developed in Europe for higher essential oil content and larger roots. [...] I was working on the mugwort chapter (still!) of my book on witching herbs when it came to me that here is this plant that’s very common that is a dream herb and thereby helps with important work in witchcraft. This made me think about whether the very commonness of this herb was indicating [...] I began harvesting the wild lettuce seeds. I’ve picked a few, but now they are coming on in hoardes, which is great. Because they wear parachutes, I am having to carefully cut off the ends of the flowering tops and put them top down in an open box so the seeds can fall off. There [...] |
